Schema.org

Schema.org is an initiative from Google, Yandex, Bing, and Yahoo! to create and support a common set of schemas for structured data markup on the web. Webmasters add schema.org markup to their pages to help search engines better understand their websites.

The site owner community rapidly adopted schema.org.

Even though it takes time and effort to add this markup to your pages, schema.org allows you improve how your sites appear in search results on all major search engines: Google, Yandex, Bing, Yahoo! and others.

Item types

Schema.org supports many markup types. Here are a few popular types:

Markup formats

There are multiple standards for structured data markup: Microdata, RDFa, and JSON-LD.

Markup validation

It’s very useful to test your web pages with markup to make sure that the data can be parsed correctly. You should use the Structured Data Testing Tool and Google-specific Rich Results Test tool for this purpose.
